OK, today’s my last day of this color scheme. Maybe! Tomorrow I will be either back to animals, or I may try my hand at plant-based patterns. Trees, leaves, and of course, florals.

I will no doubt use this color scheme again in the future, it’s served me well this week.

Today I went for a pattern that may work better for children’s products: rainbow rain and blue clouds. I could see working this into a baby blanket with a matching stripe as a supporting pattern.

I’m sick in bed today so I didn’t have a lot of energy to do something really innovative. Yesterday you got straight rainbow stripes. Today you get wavy rainbow stripes.

What is cool is that someone has already purchased yesterday’s design on a phone case! Someone loves vintage rainbow colors as much as I do! In fact, I’ve made 13 sales today so far, probably a cyber monday thing.

OK, time for a break from animals. If you can believe it, I’ve actually been creating other patterns and designs all week on top of my regular daily design! That’s because I’ve been jonesing to do rainbow-based designs for a while, and I guess I just couldn’t wait!

So today starts a new theme sprint. I will almost assuredly go back to animals at some point, but since I found myself doing chromatic creations each day this week, I felt it was time to actually dedicate myself to them until it was time to move on.

Today I start with the most basic of basic patterns – stripes! Done in the gorgeous rainbow color scheme that I finessed all week. Despite rainbow stripes being as basic as you can get, I still love the zippered back and I know it’s something that I personally would buy if I saw it at a store.

So, new theme: Chromatic Creations. Until it’s time to move on. Yay!

My son’s tenth birthday is tomorrow. I asked what he wanted me to draw for him for a tee shirt as a birthday present, he said “a Squirrelicorn, with a rainbow tail.”

Well, here you go, a Squirrelicorn with a rainbow tail. Also a golden acorn, which probably is what transformed this ordinary squirrel into a squirrelicorn.

I hope my client is happy with it.

So someone on my Facebook page quipped that my pink koalas looked naked. Go ahead, navigate back a day and look. Now that she said that I can’t unsee it – they look naked to me.

Thing is, I tried going standard gray koala and it was just plain boring. And my line on this piece isn’t quite good enough to just do black and white drawing style. My husband suggested rainbow. It was a little intense, so I decided to do rainbow ears instead.

Took me all damned day! I have no idea if I like it or if it’s any good; ask me in a couple of months. Here it is on Redbubble

This one was my husband’s idea. He said “You should do stripes that go from fat to thin one way, and then fat to thin the other way, and they should be gradients each way.”

So I gave that a go! The first design was straight stripes, but I just can’t. So I did some duplicating and off-setting, and played with the layer blending modes until I liked it.

It’s bright and rainbowy and feels very cheerful. Plus stripes are the easiest things in the world next to polka dots to make into a repeat pattern.

Until tomorrow!
