Decided to do badgers today. I got the dreaded wheel of death when working in Illustrator and lost all my work and had to go back and start again. UGH.

Like I did with the raccoons, I did the illustrations today and will create a pattern tomorrow. They are so similar in style I think that I will do a pattern combining the two here in the near future!

I took my raccoon illustrations from yesterday and put them into a repeat pattern as planned. I tried out a lot of color stories but ended up liking the dark one best — mostly because I picture raccoons hanging out at night.

My thoughts on this one are that it needs work. Haha. I think there’s potential there and I think I may revisit it in the future to refine it. See it on Redbubble!

Sooo, I’m not sure what happened today. I knew I wanted to make a pattern from the giraffes from yesterday. Doing a repeat with such tall, thin shapes really created some design challenges. I knew that I wanted to do some horizontal lines to offset the tall shapes. That turned into the idea of a 70s inspired sunset.

This was a day where I just had to commit because it’s getting late. I’m not convinced it works – but again, it’s almost 11 and I’m really ready for bed. So up it goes.

I also wanted to do a standalone piece for tees and other things that are not all over print. The standalone piece I actually rather like. It’s the repeat pattern that I can’t even tell if it’s any good. Anyway – here it is! I have two Redbubble links:

My friend requested a giraffe print. I decided to do the giraffes today and try to work them into a pattern tomorrow. They didn’t exactly come out as I was expecting, to be honest. I will see what I can do with them tomorrow.

It is fascinating how you can start out to do something very specific and what comes out the other side is nowhere near where you were intending to go! You can see all the iterations on Redbubble!

I watched a little bit of Blue Planet with my son tonight and was inspired by the massive schools of sardines and their quick, synchronized movements. And then they all got chompy-chomped by tuna, and then dolphins, and then sea birds, and finally sharks. I mean really, they had no chance whatsoever.

I ran into some real technical difficulties today that really pushed the limits of Illustrator as well as my patience. I finally pulled everything into Photoshop to finish it off and get the colors closer to where I wanted them. I never really got it where I wanted it, but I do like the final product nonetheless.

Because repeat patterns don’t work well on tees that are not all over print, I also did a standalone graphic for those products as well.
